I have a Peavey Valveking 20W guitar amplifier, which has good-sounding break-up and overload distortion. I wanted a boost pedal to push the clean input harder, to produce a hint of bite and grit. This pedal does the job perfectly, with the bonus of options for mid-boost and heavier sound. It's very quiet, the tone controls are effective, and it's solidly made. Great value.
The Spark Booster does nothing glamorous (despite the marketing that it's a creativity 'booster')... it's just handy little device to use either alone or in an effects chain. One use is simply as a simple high-cut or low-cut filter (the bass and treble knobs). Another is to set the level control higher and simply stomp the unit on to give a volume boost when you're playing a solo. Or, you can leave it on all the time with the gain right up to give the slightest amount of grittiness (not as much as an overdrive would) and use the level control to set the volume. There's also a 3-way switch that gives you some additional low end (fat), a clean mids sound, or a slightly boosted mid frequency sound. The unit is very low noise and quite robust in a metal casing. I've been using it pre a Boss DD-200 delay unit: it gives a small amount of grit underneath an otherwise clean dual delay sound that more or less emulates a 80s U2 sound circa Joshua Tree. Hard to fault for the money. The only slight negative - if I'm being ridiculously picky - is the super bright white activation light. But this is a pretty versatile and useful device for the money.
