The tree spirits
The players are the keepers of the trees and do their part to ensure that the forest is a healthy and lush home for the Kodamas - the Japanese tree spirits.
Each move grows the trees and populates them with a mixture of flowers, insects, mushrooms and other things. Points are awarded depending on which elements are on the newly grown branch.
The players try to make their tree as attractive as possible for a Kodama, because at the end of every season the Kodamas are looking for a new home. And the happier they are with the tree, the more abundant the rewards! Who will the Kodamas ultimately choose to be the new keeper of the forest?
